Classroom Walk-throughs

When school leaders have a clear, objective picture of what is happening in the classroom, they can establish standards for practice, guide professional learning, support reflective dialogue, and develop best practices among faculty.

SBCISD’s main walk-through instrument was developed in-house and focuses on student engagement, higher-order thinking, and concept-based instruction.

Over time, classroom observational data reveals patterns of practice. Savvy instructional leaders use this data to direct coaching efforts, provide professional development opportunities for individuals or groups of teachers, and suggest professional learning for the whole school.
